Bulletin of information on the FENICE’s activities in transnational partnerships in European Projects, within the framework of the Socrates and the Leonardo da Vinci Programmes

...to the first issue of “Fenice News”. This newsletter is aimed at anyone who is interested in European Projects, but particularly at people who is interested in the themes dealt with these projects.

This issue describes the projects in which FENICE is involved as partner and the products developed by transnational partnerships, with support from the European Commission, within the framework of the Lingua Action of the Socrates Programme and Pilot Projects Action of the Leonardo da Vinci Programme.

We hope that this issue of “Fenice News” will help to promote these materials and methods to a wider audience, but also that it will encourage the exchange of ideas and experiences.

 The idea of the project arises from a real need shown for lots of years by the teachers of  the I.T.I. “S. Mottura”, promoter of the project. Thus the need to identify some models as a guide for a co-operation between the publishing market actors, has been the spring that has driven us  to look at user niches in the European publishing market that show needs like ours (Vocational Training centres, Small/Medium Enterprise). The individuation of needs has occurred both through a statistical research developed within CENSIS about system integration and about the operator skills for the integration of the education world, the vocational training and the enterprise, and through contacts with European training centres we have worked with.

 The NUVOLA Project aims at:

1)  Providing trainers and educational administrators (managers) with an effective system for the spotting of teaching aids and supports appropriate to formative needs; 2)  Providing teaching aids publishers and planners with a guide ( list of indicators) to give reference to products planned for vocational training (VT); 3)  Creating the conditions for all educational agents (schools, vocational training centres, small and medium enterprises) and private institutions to easily cope with present communication technology, to acquire and make use in a dynamic way of teaching aids, personalised and functional to specific needs.

 Le projet est né du besoin vivement ressenti depuis de longues années par les enseignants de l’école technique « S.Mottura » à Caltanissetta (Sicile). D’où la nécessité d’identifier quelques modèles pouvant servir de guide à une collaboration entre les différents acteurs du monde de l’édition et  de rechercher au niveau  européen les utilisateurs potentiels qui pourraient avoir des besoins similaires aux nôtres (centres de formation professionnelle,  PME).

Le projet NUVOLA vise à :

1)  Fournir aux enseignants et responsables de l’enseignement un système efficace pour repérer les aides didactiques adaptées aux  exigences de la formation. 2) Fournir aux éditeurs et concepteurs de supports didactiques un guide (une liste d’indicateurs) permettant de cataloguer les produits destinés à la Formation Professionnelle (FP). 3) Créer les conditions permettant à tous les acteurs de la formation  (écoles, centres de formation professionnelle, PME) et aux institutions privées d’accéder facilement aux nouvelles technologies de la communication, d’acquérir et d’utiliser efficacement des aides didactiques adaptées à des besoins spécifiques.

 L’idea del progetto nasce da una reale esigenza evidenziata da moltissimi anni dai docenti dell’I.T.I. “S. Mottura”, promotore del progetto. L’individuazione dei bisogni è avvenuta sia attraverso una ricerca statistica,  sviluppata in ambito Censis sull’integrazione dei sistemi e sulle competenze degli operatori per l’integrazione fra il mondo della scuola, della F.P. e dell’impresa, sia attraverso contatti con centri di formazione europei con cui abbiamo lavorato. Il progetto, che abbiamo chiamato NUVOLA, intende : 1) fornire a formatori e gestori di formazione un sistema efficace per l’individuazione di materiali e supporti didattici adeguati alle esigenze formative; 2) fornire a editori e progettisti di supporti didattici una guida (griglia di indicatori) per referenziare i prodotti destinati alla F.P.; 3) creare le condizioni affinché tutti  gli ambienti di  formazione (scuole, centri di F.P., PMI) ed i privati possano utilizzare agevolmente le attuali tecnologie della comunicazione per acquisire e fruire dinamicamente di supporti didattici personalizzati e funzionali a specifiche necessità.

§        UN PORTALE PER LA NEW ECONOMY

The new economy, above all in the South Italy and in some regions of the Communitarian Countries, has allowed the birth of new enterprises and the creation of new workplaces. They are beyond five thousand the companies grown in Italy in the market of computer science and the communications, in particular in the South of our country. 

 Objective of the plan is the creation of a Web portal that puts in Internet the requirements of the market of new economy (in terms of professional figures and the specific competencies) and the instruments (guideline, vocational training and professional qualification) to disposition of institutions and agencies that operate in the field of the vocational training beyond that of single individuals (teacher and customers of the Vocational Training in the European community). 

In particular will be created an innovative portal for the connection on line to educational structures or for a specific vocational training of high European level, comprising a forum among companies for the demand of new professional figures.   Inside of this portal there will be courses of high level that are not available on the market of the vocational training on-line or links with Internet sites that offer vocational training courses of high level in the field of the ICT.   The portal is justified from the great demand for e-Learning  education and from the search of staff who the companies make on Internet (reducing considerable of the times for the recruitment). 

The portal allows, moreover, the participation of the education institutions and of the companies that wish to participate to the vocational training online. It is believed, in this way, to elevate also the cognitive level of the teacher and the cultural and professional competencies (and therefore to improve the competencies of the students).

§        UN PORTALE PER LA NEW ECONOMY

L’initiative naît de l’exigence de créer un ‘portail’ Web novateur dans le domaine de la New Economy qui favorise une formation continue et spécifique de haut niveau européen même à travers la liaison avec des structures formatives publiques et privées. Il comprendra un forum entre entreprise de dimension de tout type, y compris le PME, et institutions formatives et usagers-élèves pour la demande de nouvelles figures professionnelles fondées aussi sur formation sur demande. A l’intérieur de ce portail on pourra créer de cours de formation de haut niveau qu’on ne saurait trouver sur le marché de la formation on-line ou même établir des liens avec la création de sites formatifs de haut niveau.

En plus par le truchement du portail on pourra récupérer des informations à travers des links avec les plus importantes institutions formatives européennes (ministères, universités, écoles de tout ordre, centres de formation, responsables de la formation etc.) et mettre dans le réseau, et à la disposition des entreprises, un personnel certifié par un examen des compétences permettant à n’importe qui de se construire au fur et à mesure un curriculum professionnel qui sera proposé aux entreprises intéressées.

Le portail tend, en plus, à la participation aussi bien des réalités scolaires que d’entreprises intéressées au développent de formation e-Learning fondée sur un système de self assessment et de personnalisation du parcours formatif. On tend de cette façon à élever aussi le niveau cognitif des enseignants institutionnels mais aussi d’entreprise qui peuvent, ainsi, rendre leur formation adéquate et en conséquence élever les compétences de leurs propres élèves aussi bien sur le plan culturel qu’en sens spécifique.

§        UN PORTALE PER LA NEW ECONOMY

L’iniziativa nasce dall’esigenza di creare un portale Web innovativo nel campo della New Economy che favorisca una formazione continua e specifica di alto livello europeo anche attraverso il collegamento a strutture formative pubbliche e private. Esso comprenderà un forum tra aziende di ogni dimensione, comprese le PMI, e istituzioni formative e utenti-allievi per la richiesta di nuove figure professionali basate anche su formazione a richiesta. All’interno di questo portale si potranno creare corsi di formazione di alto livello che non sono reperibili sul mercato della formazione on-line oppure stabilire collegamenti con siti formativi di alto livello.

Inoltre tramite il portale si potranno reperire informazioni attraverso link con le più importanti istituzioni formative europee (ministeri, università, scuole di ogni ordine e grado, centri di formazione, assessorati alla formazione ecc.) e mettere in rete, e a disposizione delle aziende, personale certificato con un esame delle competenze permettendo a chiunque di costruirsi nel tempo, un curricolo professionale che sarà proposto alle aziende interessate.

Il portale si giustifica, ancora, per la grande richiesta di formazione in rete e per la ricerca di personale che oramai le aziende fanno su Internet riducendo considerevolmente  i tempi per il reclutamento.

Il portale tende, inoltre, alla partecipazione sia di diverse realtà scolastiche sia di aziende che siano interessate allo sviluppo di formazione eLearning basata su un sistema di self assessment e di personalizzazione del percorso formativo.

§        Le français par les techniques théâtrales 

 Main objective of this project is to involve the learner by fostering the integration of reason and feeling in the cognitive process. This is why we want to bring changes into the usual approaches to language teaching and offer alternatives by exploiting techniques which are widely used in the field of theatre.

Though it is linked to foreign language (French) this project aims at selecting models which may be used in the teaching of other subjects as well, as they study and experience integrated forms of communication (words, gestures, emotional involvement and multimedia).

The basic notion behind this project is that communication is involved in the changes characterising our society much more than anything else, it conditions behaviour and is behind the socio-economic development of  the so called “global village”.

Our practical objective is to produce multimedia materials (teaching units recorded in a videocassette, which will show how theatre techniques may be used in the teaching/learning process of French,  a  handbook, an interactive multimedia CD-Rom) which teachers and students may use on their own.

§   Le français par les techniques théâtrales

 Le projet se propose de répondre à de nouveaux besoins axés sur l’individu, considéré dans sa totalité d’être nanti d’un corps, d’une sensibilité d’un monde intérieur, bref de tout ce qui d’habitude reste étranger à la routine du quotidien scolaire. L’intervention que le projet se propose veut explorer une méthodologie alternative, sans pour autant envahir des domaines naturellement étrangers à la quête scolaire ou toucher les veines intimes de chacun.

Le but du projet se synthétise donc en un renouveau de l’enseignement, et de l’enseignement de la discipline: “Langue étrangère: le français”, dans ce cas. L’objectif est : proposer une didactique du français alternative et en mesure de remplacer l’actuelle, ayant recours à des techniques largement utilisées dans d’autres domaines, le théâtre, sans pour autant s’épuiser en elles et sans prétendre d’aboutir nécessairement à des représentations sur scène, mais simplement pour obtenir une participation de la part des usagers en mesure de faire appel à des stratégies d’apprentissage exclues de la pratiques courante.

L’objectif matériel est la création d’instruments multimédia, (unités didactiques en mesure d’élucider l’emploi des techniques de théâtre ayant le but didactique de l’apprentissage du français, enregistrées sur vidéo-cassette, un guide pédagogique, un CD-ROM interactif) tels à offrir à professeurs et élèves la possibilités de parcourir tout seuls ces itinéraires.

 §        Le français par les techniques théâtrales

L’obiettivo principale di questo progetto è il coinvolgimento del soggetto ottenuto favorendo l’interazione della ragione e del sentimento nel percorso cognitivo. Diventa dunque importante il rinnovamento della metodica dell’insegnamento della lingua straniera, nel nostro caso applicata al francese e quindi la proposta di una didattica alternativa e sostitutiva dell’attuale, facendo ricorso a tecniche largamente utilizzate in un altro campo, il teatro. Pur se l'area di applicazione è quella della lingua straniera, questo progetto intende ricercare modelli didattici che, basati sulla esplorazione e sperimentazione di forme integrate di comunicazione (espressione verbale, gestualità, coinvolgimento emotivo, impiego di tecnologie multimediali), siano di fatto applicabili anche in altri contesti disciplinari.

L’obiettivo materiale è la creazione di strumenti multimediali, (unità didattiche registrate  su videocassetta, manuale esplicativo delle valenze comunicazionali e didattiche, CD-ROM multimediale interattivo) in grado di consentire a docenti e a studenti di percorrere tali itinerari anche da soli.

§        Join your grandchildren in learning a foreign language

 The overall objective of the project is to raise citizens' awareness of the advantages of lifelong learning of foreign language by motivating and practically engaging retired people and people above 50 looking their young children in learning foreign languages. Retired people are much less likely, if at all, to speak foreign languages. In an age of dynamic development of information and communication technologies and growing gap between generations due to that factor that may be one of the rare opportunities for grandparents to join their grandchildren in studying.

As a result of the project grandparents will be motivated to undertake foreign language learning being aware of the advantages of the process and provided with information how to learn languages at this age and how to enrich the awareness of a foreign culture through language learning. Organizing competitions and other activities (language clubs, weekend language parties, etc.) along with their grandparents may effectively influence the children’s attitudes towards foreign language learning. The process of engaging them in foreign language learning with an emphasis on the cultural similarities and differences may also provide practical examples for developing social skills such as respect for others, tolerance and understanding of other cultures and traditions.

§   Join your grandchildren in learning a foreign language

 Ce projet se propose de développer la conscience des citoyens sur les avantages que l’apprentissage qu’une langue étrangère offre au cours de toute la vie, soit en créant la motivation, soit en concernant les retraités qui suivent leurs enfants dans l’apprentissage des langues étrangères. Les retraités, avec les âgées de plus de 50 ans, sont parmi les personnes qui parlent moins, sinon pas du tout, les langues étrangères.

De notre époque, caractérisée par le développement dynamique des technologies d’information et de communication et, par conséquent, par un croissant décalage de générations, c’est une extraordinaire opportunité pour les grands-parents que de s’occuper des études de leurs petits-enfants. Grâce à ce projet, les grands-parents auront une motivation pour commencer à apprendre une langue étrangère, ayant par là connaissance soit des avantages qu’un tel processus offre, soit des modalités d’apprentissage d’une langue étrangère, tout en étant âgés, soit sur la manière d’enrichir la connaissance d’un autre pays et de sa culture, par moyen de la connaissance de la langue. Du reste, l’organisation de compétitions et d’autres activités (clubs et fêtes de fin de semaine en langue étrangère) avec leurs grands-parents peut réellement influencer les attitudes des enfants envers l’apprentissage d’une langue étrangère. Soulignant les affinités et les différences culturelles, ce processus d’apprentissage des langues peut aussi fournir des exemples pratiques pour développer des attitudes sociales positives, telles le respect envers les autres gens, la tolérance et la compréhension d’autres cultures et de traditions.

§        Join your grandchildren in learning a foreign language

Questo progetto si propone di potenziare la consapevolezza dei cittadini sui vantaggi che l’apprendimento di una lingua straniera offre nel corso di tutta la vita motivando ed impegnando praticamente le persone che meno probabilmente parlano una lingua straniera ovvero pensionati e persone over 50 nel seguire i loro nipoti nell’apprendimento di una lingua straniera. In un’epoca caratterizzata dallo sviluppo dinamico di tecnologie di informazione e comunicazione e, conseguentemente, da un crescente divario tra generazioni, unirsi ai nipoti nello studio può rappresentare, per i nonni, una straordinaria opportunità. Con questo progetto i nonni hanno una motivazione per iniziare l’apprendimento di una lingua straniera venendo così a conoscenza sia dei vantaggi che tale processo offre sia sulle modalità di apprendimento di una lingua straniera in età avanzata, sia su come arricchire la propria conoscenza di un altro paese e della sua cultura attraverso l’apprendimento della lingua. Peraltro, l’organizzazione di gare e di altre attività (club e feste di fine settimana in lingua) insieme ai loro nonni può realmente influenzare gli atteggiamenti dei bambini verso l’apprendimento di una lingua straniera. Il processo che li impegna in tale apprendimento, per l’enfasi che pone sulle affinità e sulle differenze culturali, può anche fornire esempi pratici per potenziare atteggiamenti sociali positivi quali il rispetto per gli altri, la tolleranza e la comprensione di altre culture e tradizioni.
